The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), founded in 1968, is a nonprofit educational organization based in Geneva, Switzerland. It offers to schools three programs:
There are 1,305 school authorized to offer IB programs. These schools offer a total of 1,532 IB programs in 116 countries as of January 31, 2004.
In 2002, the Stamford Board of Education approved Rogers Magnet School's request to implement the IB Primary Years Program, the goal of becoming an authorized school. The authorization process takes, minimally, three years. Throughout this process -- and beyond -- the IBO will work closely with Rogers' teaching and extracurricular staff to train them in the methodology of the IB program.

The IBO's regional office and regional representatives will be working closely with Rogers Magnet throughout the application and authorization processes. This close working relationship will continue on after IB authorization is granted!
The Primary Years Program provides an opportunity for learners to construct meaning, principally through concept-driven inquiry. Traditional academic subjects are part of the program, but it emphasizes the interrelatedness of knowledge and skills through a trans-disciplinary program of inquiry.
The PYP focuses on the heart as well as the mind and addresses social, physical, emotional and cultural needs as well as academic ones. The PYP aims to develop in children:
Schools enjoy much flexibility in language of instruction and languages taught, after consulting with the IBO.
IB programs provide a broad and challenging education. The programs enable students to acquire important academic skills and to develop an international perspective and a commitment to their communities.
The IBO continues to work closely with schools after they become authorized. IBO regional offices organize regional conferences where IB schools can share their experiences and exchange ideas. IB teachers can access curriculum materials and interact in real time with other teachers via the IBO's online curriculum center.
